Truth be told, a few decades ago, in the pioneer (and even not so pioneer) days of polymer clay, artists were obtaining the gradients by mixing colors in calculated proportions.
Until one fateful day in 1996 when mathematician, former NASA programmer and polymer clay artist Judith Skinner got frustrated with the color gradation she was working on.
Her analytical and logical thinking came with a simple solution for obtaining perfect color gradients. And so, the Skinner blend was born.
We are still using it today, more than 20 years later, and we still call it by her name. For the simple reason that there is no simpler and better way to obtain a perfect gradient from the start, and even if you just started working in polymer clay, it will still be simple for you.
In the following tutorial I am showing you not just the Skinner blend, but also my own way of manipulating gradients, and a few basic uses of them
Enjoy!
