I do use Fimo Professional from time to time, mostly for cane making. To me it's a bit hard to condition, which is a pity because some of the colors are absolutely magnificent.
Pros:
Beautiful and pure colors.
- Makes absolutely superb Skinner blends, and you can mix colors to obtain new hues with confidence, as it's a “pure color” palette.
Buffs to a beautiful glossy shine
Exceptional for canes – due it's texture and consistency there will be less deformation when constructing or reducing a cane.
True to the German reliability, a very consistent and reliable quality
Pearlescents, metallics and special effects colors are not bad.
Cons
A tad on the hard side when it comes to conditioning. You will spend quite a bit of time to get it to proper conditioning and workability
If Premo gets too stretchy, Fimo is the exact opposite. It's very little stretchable – which is a great quality when making canes, but not that great when you try to use it to make veneers. You know that 1 mm spot you need to cover, and for Premo you just pull a little and it stretches perfectly? Yes? Forget about that with Fimo.
Do I recommend Fimo? Definitely. It's a good quality clay, and you can get excellent results with it.
As for the Fimo translucent as well as Fimo Doll Art clay I discuss them in a separate article.
